"Coincidentally, a suspiciously large percentage of Android and BlackBerry owners may be suffering from the same delusion," Eisner wrote. "BlackBerry owners (24 percent) are almost as confused as iPhone owners since RIM doesn't currently offer a 4G phone. At least some Android owners could be answering correctly as Android 4G phones like the HTC Evo 4G or Samsung Infuse 4G have been available for some time. If nothing else this large number of misinformed phone owners serves to emphasize the fact that consumers are quite confused about 4G." Via MSNBC TechblogNow it isn't that difficult to grasp why many wouldn't know that they don't have 4G capable iPhones already since there can be confusion with the iPhone called iPhone 4, and many consumers don't care too much about the technical differences as long as the product works great.
If you are interested int eh differences between 3G and 4G networks then Wikipedia has a good descriptions: 4G is the fourth generation of cellular wireless standards. It is a successor to the 3G and 2G families of standards...setting peak speed requirements for 4G service at 100 Mbit/s for high mobility communication (such as from trains and cars) and 1 Gbit/s for low mobility communication (such as pedestrians and stationary users) via Wikipedia 4GCompared to 3G network speeds where:

iPhone 5 Assemblers is finding it challenging to create the new iPhone 5 it has been reported. As with all of Apple’s technology the design is done in California with very advanced engineering techniques to create products which are in a league of their own
Unlike other plastic phone’s which seem to be easy and cheap to manufacture, assemblers of the iPhone 5 is finding it a bit difficult. (which means it will be a great and SOLID piece of hardware when it comes out.
Apple is putting in orders with key suppliers for a new iPhone, which will ship in the third quarter, Lorraine Luk at the Wall Street Journal reports.
Luk says the new iPhone will be thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4, and it will have an 8 megapixel camera, as opposed to the 5 megapixel camera on the iPhone 4.
One of the supply sources tells Luk Apple wants to ship 25 million new iPhones by year’s end. The supplier also says Apple wants orders for parts to go to its manufacturing partner Hon Hai starting in August.
The source warned there may be a delay in Apple’s plans because the new iPhone is “complicated and difficult to assemble.”
Apple has had some trouble keeping up with demand for the iPad 2, and Hon Hai boss Terry Gou admitted that making iPads is hard.
So from the sounds of it no-one is confirming whether the iPhone 5 will be tapered (like the shape of the MacBook Air) to easily slide into your trouser pockets, but it will definitely be lighter and Thinner.
If your contract is coming to and end after your iPhone 4 purchase it’s good times all around. Just a few more weeks to wait for the iPhone 5.

The good people of the iPhone dev team have officially released their untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1. For those who don’t know it, an untethered jailbreak allows you to freely reboot your iOS device without the need to connect it to a computer. The jailbreak itself is called redsn0w. Even when it seems like there is no hope for a jailbreak, these guys never cease to amaze me. This jailbreak will work with the following devices:
This is simply a list of pretty much all the iOS devices that iOS 4.3 supports.
If you are on a PC at this time and want to jailbreak your Apple TV 2G, then you will have to find someone with a mac and the latest version of iTunes. On this mac, you will want to run something called PwnageTool. This will allow you to create a custom IPSW file which can then be installed on your Apple TV 2G. To download the jailbreak tool itself, you will need to click here if you are on windows, or you can click here if you are on a mac.If you want to jailbreak the Apple TV 2G, then you will need to go to use a bit torrent client to download the PwnageTool app for your mac. I should also mention that you should have already downloaded the IPSW file for iOS 4.3.1.
Either way, proceed with caution on this one. If you are paranoid like me, then I would take the following steps. Restore to iOS 4.3.1, then run Redsn0w or pwnagetool on your iOS device. If you are unsure, I will have a video tutorial here shortly. Please note though that iPhone Tutorial Videos cannot be held repsonsible for any problems caused by jailbreaking your iOS device. If you are going to try this out, then be sure to try it out and let us know what you think of it.

I don’t know about you, but I personally think that it has been a long time coming. After god knows how long, the Skype app for iOS has been updated with support for video calling using either Wi-Fi or 3G. I am also glad to announce that this updated has been posted to the app store earlier on today, so go ahead and check it out.
For those of you who don’t know it already, Apple already has video calling (FaceTime) which is available on the iPhone 4, and the 4th Generation iPod Touch(released October 2010). FaceTime is only available on Wi-Fi for the time being unless you jailbreak.

Apple’s iOS 4.1 update brought HDR photography to the iPhone 4 but left out the iPhone 3GS.
Here are two ways to add HDR photography on iPhone 3G to your unsupported device.
The easiest way is to spend $2 on a little app called Pro HDR, which gives you a lot more control over the HDR images you create. It’s worth a look even if you’re an iPhone 4 user, as Pro HDR lets you adjust the image after it’s taken.
If you’d prefer to have the HDR option directly in the camera app and you’ve jailbroken your iPhone (or want to), you can download HDR Camera Enabler from Cydia via the ModMyI repository (instructions here).
Well, you can see why now is the best time to buy an iPhone 3GS or an iPhone 4. If you are into HDR photography, then this is definitely something you want to have a look at

With Apple’s media event just two days away, iPod rumors are swinging into high gear. Rumors of a smaller iPod nano kicked off late last week and have been quickly followed by a flurry purported case leaks and additional claims supporting the belief. 9 to 5 Mac and AppleInsider share some additional cases and screen protectors that have popped up on Asian e-commerce sites with claims that they are for a forthcoming iPod nano model.
Mockup of next-generation iPod nano – almost certainly a speculative design concept
One of the new case leaks offers enough detail that we can begin to guess at some of the physical features of the next-generation iPod nano. A long slot on the edge of case certainly appears to be designed to accommodate Apple’s 30-pin dock connector, which has been claimed to be included on the new device. An elongated hole on the opposite edge likely represents an on/off or hold switch as found on several previous and current iPod models.Speculative identification of next-generation iPod nano physical features
The remaining three holes visible on the claimed iPod nano case are less obvious in their functionality, but one (possibly the one next to the dock connector) is certain to be a headphone jack. The remaining pair of holes in close proximity along the opposite edge could accommodate physical volume buttons similar to those found on the iPhone 4, although that conclusion is the most speculative of the identifications. Finally, all of the purported cases contain either a completely open back or an open slot on the rear of the case, a feature that is rumored to accommodate a clip as was found on earlier-generation iPod shuffle models.
Well if the rumors are true, then tomorrow, a lot of iPod Nano users will be able to jump on the iOS bandwagon with their iPod Nanos. Based on the screenshots you see above, it also looks like that this iPod will also have wi-fi integrated into it. However, I can’t see any of the regular iOS apps working. If anything, you will be lucky to see the weather app working on there. I should also say that if the screen is going to be that small, then I don’t see how you will be able to watch music videos or movies on such a small screen.
I should also use this as a reminder that if anyone is doing video coverage of the event then I will try and put it here 30 minutes before the event is scheduled to start.

Learn how to make iPhone Apps and Sell them on the App Store
In the early launch of the iPhone 4 there was quite a few complaints about losing signal when you use your left hand or make contact with the metal outside part of the iPhone (which everyone who doens’t use a cover will do)
I was amazed when I tried it with my own iPhone and had the same problem. Previously I believed i was just in a bad reception area but unfortunately it seems Apple might not have tested the devices without a cover so probably never experienced the problem
Apple didn’t seem to concerned about the problem and responded:
avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.
As demonstrated in the short video below, YouTube member “chedacheese” claims that two strategically applied strips of common household tape can fix the signal glitch that results in dropped calls when you hold an iPhone 4 a certain way.
Although it is true that the problem is easily fixed with getting a cover there are two alternatives: 1) Use sticky tape or 2) demand a cover from Apple
Specifically, when you cover the bottom-left edge of the phone with your palm — a method popular with lefties — you may significantly degrade the phone’s network signal,
Free Apple Bumpers in the UK!!
Apparently, according to a BBC 5Live interview today, iPhone 4 users who go to the Apple store to complain about the ‘left hand lost signal phenomenon’ are being given a free Apple Bumper to alleviate the problem.
Post on this thread if you have success in getting one.
I did wonder when first seeing the bumper exactly why it had been designed to only protect the edge. And, AFAIK, it’s the first time Apple have offered a ‘case’ for sale with a device.
This suggests that Apple was pre-empting a known problem.
These bumpers retail for £25, so are not at all bad for free
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC597ZM/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
I’m definitely heading down to my Apple store over lunch to collect my free “Bumper cover” as it doesn’t matter how much I love this device, if i get a bad signal it has to be sorted.

The iPhone 4 is launching tomorrow 24th June in the UK as well as many other markets and many people are selling their older iPhone 3G or iphone 3GS on ebay or through their mobile phone networks recycling program for quite a good price
Apple iPhone 3G 16Gb
As with any hard-drive the iphones data can be recovered even when erased by security experts or someone with a motive to really read your emails, so it is suggested that you do some housecleaning in your iPhone before restoring it and sending it off for some easy earned CASH.
For those of you who aren’t just convincing your spousees to take your “old” iPhone off your hands to justify that new toy, Securosis presents a simple process to minimize the chances of recovery. It’s not perfect, but it’s easy and should offer enough protection for those of you forced to eBay your once-precious-but-now-obsolete device:
- Restore the iPhone from within iTunes.
- On the “Info” tab, un-check all options so you don’t synchronize calendars, email, bookmarks, and contacts.
- On the Photos, Podcasts, and Video tabs, uncheck “Sync …”.
- Create 3 big playlists at large as the storage capacity of your iPhone.
- On the Music tab, select the first of your 3 playlists to sync. Make sure the storage bar at the bottom looks full after syncing.
- Sync your iPhone, change to the next playlist, sync again, and repeat one last time.
I’ve found a Video from CNet which explains it in video format and takes you through the steps
If you are unfortunate to still have a iPhone 3G (and not the iphone 3GS) but don’t have the means to get an iPhone 4 at the moment you can always recycle it, and purchase a 3GS for the same price the recycling company would give you, basically costing your only a few pounds / dollars.
