How Does It Work for You, the User?

Here’s one example: If you are working on email and there’s a link to a web page, clicking on that link will open Safari. In previous versions, that will close Mail and launch Safari. Once you were done watching that web page, you would close Safari, get back to the main iPhone menu, click on the Mail, and go back to your mail.

In this new version, however, Mail keeps running–turning into a dormant state–and Safari opens. To go back to Mail, you just double-click the home button: A dock will slide in from the bottom of the page, showing the running apps. Click on any app to switch to the app.

Another good example is Skype: You can open Skype and leave it open, then go off to use any other application

According to a recent Poll by MobileMag a resounding majority of current iPhone 3G and 3GS users will stay loyal to the Apple brand and are eagerly awaiting the release of the new iPhone 4G. (I know for one I am)

With over 2000 participants in the poll (at the time of writing this) the verdict was clear:

Yes they will buy the new version, however there are a few things that most would like to see in the newer version.

The most requested improvement is for:

a) better Battery life, especially since a lot of people are using the current iPhone for many hours a day, while out and about, on public transport or even in the office…
(I know a financial day trader that has his iPhone on a trading application from 9am to 5pm watching his stocks and alerting him to actions he needs to take, without interfering, or having to be installed, on his work PC)

b) Multi-tasking , even if limited to only a couple of programs apart from the Apple apps (which already multi-task and run in the background)
Many users I know have jailbroken and used Pro-Switcher from the Cydia store to allow for this with minimum problems, other than faster depletion of the battery.

c) Larger display – This could make the phone a bit more bulky (just think of the Blackberry’s you most probably see around your office)

Apple seems to still have a loyal fan base and a growing customer base, and if they keep on delivering an incredible majority of users will stick with Apple and probably eventually realize that they should move to Mac Desktop’s as well

Does the iPhone OS Need Multitasking?

As we approach the one-year anniversary of the launch of the iPhone 3GS, rumors are beginning to circulate about what we can expect from an iPhone 4G. One of the most-wanted, and most-speculated features for the next-generation iPhone OS is the ability to truly multitask between apps.

Apple has neither confirmed nor denied that a next-generation iPhone OS is impending at all, but that hasn’t stopped the speculation. Apple seems to be a slave to routine, and past development and release cycles suggest that we can expect a new iPhone OS this summer.

Multitasking, or the lack thereof, has been one of the most prevalent complaints about the iPhone as a serious business smartphone–although I am not sure it is iPhone users who are doing the complaining.

I’ve been multi-tasking on my iPhone since the I got it in 2008. Initially there was a nice thrill to being able to have my Skype, MSN, GoogleChat and Mac contacts be able to get hold of me anywhere using Fring (Fring.com) app on the iPhone. However, after a while I realised this is really about the same as just starting up the application and switching off the screen. (non-multi-tasked) Working fulltime in IT I have also found that sometimes people complain for ages because of a feature or function they can’t have at the moment… Then after weeks or sometimes months of implementing the feature and presenting it to the clients or users, you will find it is used extremely rarely, or sometimes not at all. People will always want what they can’t have.

Windows 7 on the iPad

Citrix Systems claims that it can help users run a virtual installation of Windows 7 on the Apple iPad, when the tablet device is released later this year.

Writing in a blog post on the company’s site, Chris Fleck, the company’s vice president of Community and Solutions Development, said those companies that use either of the company’s desktop virtualization platforms, XenDesktop or XenApp, will be able to use Windows 7 from the iPad.

“It turns out [that] the 9.7-inch display on the iPad, with a 1024×768[-pixel] screen resolution, works great for a full [virtual desktop infrastructure] XenDesktop,” Fleck wrote on the Citrix blog.

Fleck went on to say that any Windows application will “run unmodified and securely in the data center.” It will even allow for users to use multiple applications at once–a major sticking point with Apple’s iPad software.

If you have been using your iPhone for some time, as with all technology, you will run into one or two problems.

One unexpected iPhone bug which you might encounter is all your 3rd party App’s might just stop working one day, and Crash every time you try to open them.

The first time this happened I though it was something I did wrong, and did a full recovery using iTunes (which erased everything on my iPhone, and worst part as well as my Contacts)

iPhones are amazing PDA’s with mobile phone capabilities built in.

Well, that is how I usually describe mine when bombarded with people telling me that their phone has a 5Mega pixel camera and this and that.

The difference is the iPhone allows you to instantly download applications for all kinds of usages: work, productivity, fun or more recently photography.
