Time for another update on the iOS jailbreaking scene. It turns out that we are not far off from an untethered jailbreak. But let me first tell you what is the difference between a tethered jailbreak and an untethered jailbreak.
An untethered jailbreak means that you can reboot without connecting your iPhone to your computer.
Tethered jailbreaks on the other hand require you to connect your iPhone to a computer and run a tool such as iBooty.
An iPhone hacker who goes by the name ion1c has found an exploit in the latest iOS (4.3.1) which would allow an untethered jailbreak to be formulated. He has handed this exploit over to the iPhone dev team (the people behind the jailbreaking tools Redsn0w and Pwnage Tool). At the time of writing this, the iPhone dev team are in the middle of beta testing for this jailbreak and are now looking for the best way to implement it.
Hopefully, we should see this jailbreak released soon. Until then, here is my advice. Feel free to upgrade iOS 4.2.1. This will allow you to do an untethered jailbreak using greenpois0n. Whatever you do don’t upgrade past iOS 4.2.1.
Until next time, this is Adiman423 on behalf of iPhone Tutorial videos signing out.
