If you have filled your iphone with all your contacts as shown in “how to transfer and sync your iphone” you will have quite a few contact on your phone. Myself as well as most people I know prefer to arrange your contacts into groups for instance, family, friends, Work etc.
Well, with the iPhone (currently Version 2.1 as of this writing) you are able to add new contacts to a group, however you can only do so once a group has been created.
It sounds a bit funny, and indeed it is.
Luckily I have gone through the trouble to make it simple and clear to show you how to create contact groups on the iPhone.
UPDATE:
There is an iPhone App called Group by AppiPlayer which allows the functionality of creating groups and putting contacts in specific groups easily.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/group-sms-and-email-free/id378635716?mt=8
The App is meant for Group SMS and Email Free and in the free version will include Ads, but will still be able to create the Groups with no problem.

Check this app: MGroup. It makes a great job with contact

I would really like if the ability to create Groups was standard functionality with the iPhone like what is available on most Smartphones.
Hi John, You can use the Application called Groups which comes as a free or paid version.
Groups is meant for creating groups and sending out group Text Messages (SMS)
The free version ads a Advert when sending out SMS messages, but does a great job at creating the groups (without the need to send out a text)
Easy Group performs the same, and it is totally free:
- group your iPhone contacts
- send group texts / emails / sms
You can download it here :
Thanks for letting me know about the App.
Looks good and does the job, and I can’t complain about the price either.
