Google has rolled out a new version of its mobile site for visitors outside of the US on Tuesday and with it moving the new experience to HTML5 rather than Flash.
Although the service has been available in the States since July, it was the first time the rest of the world got to play with the new site and new features.
“We tried to make it so snappy and so fast, but run in any browser across platforms,” said Andrey Doronichev, YouTube’s mobile product manager.
The YouTube HTML5 website (m.youtube.com) has, Google says, been designed to offer a consistent user experience on all mobile devices, including the iPod Touch and the iPad.
That also means it should be “really fast” claim the search engine and feature “larger, more touch-friendly elements,” making it easier to access videos on the go and lots of features and functionality found on the .com site, like search query suggestions, the options to create playlists, the ability to designate “favourite,” “like” or “unlike” videos directly from your device.
“As the world continues to go mobile, we think this is a great improvement for users who want a more consistent YouTube across many devices, no matter where they are,” Andrey Doronichev back in July.
