Today I visited the Apple iPhone developer world tour tech talk in London and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed.
Not too many people know this, but Apple has created the most amazing software distributiom system ever utilising the itunes store.
The tech talk group was split up into native developers and people like me who are more interrestes in creating web applications that can run on the iPhone.
While the code monkeys were in a lecture theatre talking in strange languages (which makes me nervous), I was being treated to the details of how simple Apple has made it for developers to distribute their apps to 62 different countries at a commission only charge of 30%.
Additionally the steps on how to publish your in-house apps (without using the appstore) was just as impressive Anither nice surprise was that the much debated NDA (non- disclosure agreement) is no longer in use. This means developers are now allowed to talk about how the process of publishing apps to the appstore works and do pre-launch marketing of thier apps on their own websites before it is officially released in the app store.
We spent quite some time going through technical issues and design xonciderations which I won’t explain now, but I assure you it was reply interredting. Lastly we were walked through the requirements that developers need to provide to allow their app to me accepted. I had heard a few developers complain about this before, but honestly it looked like a great way to force the developers to do their sue diligence wig the software thereby making the apps in the iTunes apparore of higher quality. Apple has really done it brilliantly.
Ps: if you would like to develop for the iPhone but don’t have a mac, subscribe to my feed, as I will be doug a video on how to get past this restriction if you have a spare laptop ( preferable a cheap MSI Wind. )
