Somewhere deep inside the bowels of iOS 5 hides a breathtaking camera function, and hacker Conrad Kramer has unlocked it. The secret, based on Kramer (Also known as Conradev), would be to set the “EnableFirebreak” answer to “Yes” inside an iOS preference file. Alternatively, you can just grab fellow hacker Grant Paul’s Firebreak tweak, which just hit the Cydia store today.
Once placed on your jailbroken phone, Firebreak will help you to take full breathtaking shots from the iOS interface, as pictured above in Paul’s screenshot. Not sure yet on if or when Apple intentions of flipping this function live, but meanwhile, you should check out the hyperlinks below for additional particulars.

Pay attention, fans, since this is one you will not wish to miss. The apple iphone 4S continues to be formally jailbroken.
iClarified reviews the apple iphone Dev-Team found a method to get Cydia running on the apple iphone 4S and also the apple ipad 2, although the jailbreak is “VERY preliminary.” You will find still large pieces missing and lots of work left to complete, so regrettably the jailbreak will not be launched towards the public. Fortunately, we can at any rate obtain a look out of this video.

We know what you're thinking -- an iPhone interfacing with a Surface? The gods must be crazy. Well, it isn't and they're not, so relax. This custom-built, multitouch table of Apple interactivity comes from Computer Science undergrads Artem Vovk and Shuo Yang at the Technische Universität Darmstadt in Germany. Aptly titled Project MGS (Media Gathering System), the system enables wireless transfer of your iPhone's media to the infrared camera-equipped tabletop for some Java-based, gesture controlling fun. How does it know the phone's on there? Simple -- the table locates a barcode affixed to the back of your device and, after that, it's just you and all the pinch-zooming, media-playing mayhem you can muster up. The project also supports file transfers between iOS devices, a feature destined for display in future videos. For now, the tech only plays nice with Apple-flavored mobile devices, but the pair promises it can easily make way for future Android connectivity. Hit the break for the full demonstration and its folksy backing track. Apple currently has 4 iOS devices available. These are the iPhone, the iPod Touch, the iPad and the Apple TV. All of these devices can be hacked by a method known as jailbreaking.
There are two types of jailbreaking, tethered jailbreaking and untethered jailbreaking. Tethered jailbreaking and untethered jailbreaking. Essentially, tethered jailbreaking means that you have to connect your iOS device to your computer and jailbreak it every time you want to reboot your iOS device. On the other hand, untethered jailbreaking means that you can freely reboot without the need to connect to a computer.
But what is jailbreaking? Essentially, jailbreaking is a hack which gives the user full access to the filesystem. It also allows users to access applications, tweaks and customisations that you would never find on Apple’s official app store. Instead they are available in another app store known as Cydia. For example, you can turn on Wi-Fi, 3G and Location services without even leaving your current app. You can also unlock your iPhone, meaning that you can use it on almost any mobile phone network you want.
Now of course, there are some pros and cons to this. So just to scare off those who are not so sure about doing this, let me state the cons of jailbreaking your iOS devices.
Now yes, Jailbreaking is now legal as specified in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act(DMCA). However, if you do jailbreak then you may void your warranty. From what I know, if you restore your iOS device to the clean firmware, then you may be out of luck. This is because Apple’s people at their stores have many tests which can help them determine if you have jailbroken your device before hand.
The second of the many disadvantages there are of jailbreaking is that it can be used for piracy. There are people out there who have been able to crack the copy protection on the applications for all iOS devices. This way, applications that you have to pay for from Apple’s app store for iOS can be illegally obtained for free. You are also hurting the developers. They have spend a lot of time and money just to create applications that you can enjoy using. I encourage/highly recommend that you support the developers by always using Apple’s app store to get your applications.
You may also risk rendering you device unusable. If you perform the process incorrectly, you will have to plug your device in to your computer. You will then have to run iTunes in order to wipe the device clean and set up your phone from scratch.
By jailbreaking your iPhone, you can gain full access to the phone and delete files, which are important to the functionality of the phone. So remember, that with great power comes great responsibility.
Let’s move on to the good things that can come out of jailbreaking an iOS device. There are many different customisations that you can get. For example, you can customise the look and feel of your phone. You are able to change the colour of the keyboard, the icons on your home screen and change the slider on the lock screen.
You can also get features on your phone that allow you to do things that the iPhone should have had since iOS 1.0. Before iOS 4.0 came out, Cydia had applications that allowed the phone to be used as a Wi-Fi access point.
it provides Apple with ideas as to what to implement into a major release of iOS. For example, the idea of folders in iOS 4 came from categories which was available in Cydia since iOS 3.1.
All-in-all, jailbreaking your iOS device has an equal amount of pros and cons. If you are going to jailbreak, then please proceed with caution.

The good people of the iPhone dev team have officially released their untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1. For those who don’t know it, an untethered jailbreak allows you to freely reboot your iOS device without the need to connect it to a computer. The jailbreak itself is called redsn0w. Even when it seems like there is no hope for a jailbreak, these guys never cease to amaze me. This jailbreak will work with the following devices:
This is simply a list of pretty much all the iOS devices that iOS 4.3 supports.
If you are on a PC at this time and want to jailbreak your Apple TV 2G, then you will have to find someone with a mac and the latest version of iTunes. On this mac, you will want to run something called PwnageTool. This will allow you to create a custom IPSW file which can then be installed on your Apple TV 2G. To download the jailbreak tool itself, you will need to click here if you are on windows, or you can click here if you are on a mac.If you want to jailbreak the Apple TV 2G, then you will need to go to use a bit torrent client to download the PwnageTool app for your mac. I should also mention that you should have already downloaded the IPSW file for iOS 4.3.1.
Either way, proceed with caution on this one. If you are paranoid like me, then I would take the following steps. Restore to iOS 4.3.1, then run Redsn0w or pwnagetool on your iOS device. If you are unsure, I will have a video tutorial here shortly. Please note though that iPhone Tutorial Videos cannot be held repsonsible for any problems caused by jailbreaking your iOS device. If you are going to try this out, then be sure to try it out and let us know what you think of it.

Time for another update on the iOS jailbreaking scene. It turns out that we are not far off from an untethered jailbreak. But let me first tell you what is the difference between a tethered jailbreak and an untethered jailbreak.
An untethered jailbreak means that you can reboot without connecting your iPhone to your computer.
Tethered jailbreaks on the other hand require you to connect your iPhone to a computer and run a tool such as iBooty.
An iPhone hacker who goes by the name ion1c has found an exploit in the latest iOS (4.3.1) which would allow an untethered jailbreak to be formulated. He has handed this exploit over to the iPhone dev team (the people behind the jailbreaking tools Redsn0w and Pwnage Tool). At the time of writing this, the iPhone dev team are in the middle of beta testing for this jailbreak and are now looking for the best way to implement it.
Hopefully, we should see this jailbreak released soon. Until then, here is my advice. Feel free to upgrade iOS 4.2.1. This will allow you to do an untethered jailbreak using greenpois0n. Whatever you do don’t upgrade past iOS 4.2.1.

After a long wait, and some hard work from the chronic dev team. Greenpois0n RC5 has finally been released for windows. It’s an untethered jailbreak which now supports iOS 4.2.1, and you will be able use it with the following devices:
Now I have been getting reports of errors. Probably because there are a lot of people trying to download and jailbreak with greenpois0n RC5. Additionally, it is the second beta of greenpois0n so there are some bugs to be expected.
You can now go ahead and download greenpois0n RC5 for Windows and Mac by clicking here . However, iPhone Tutorial Videos cannot be held responsible for any damage caused to your iOS device.
Once you have tried it out for yourself, please come back here and let us know if you had any problems or not.
note 1: An untethered jailbreak means that you don’t have to run greenpois0n if you wish to reboot your iOS device. If it was a tethered jailbreak, then you would have to run greenpois0n to reboot your device.
note 2: You will not need to have the IPSW file for iOS 4.2.1 for your device on your computer for this jailbreak to work.

Update as of 12/2/2011 at 11.04PM: Greenpois0n has been updated to RC6 and it now supports the Verizon iPhone 4 and the 2nd Generation Apple TV (Released in October 2011). If you are on the 2nd Generation Apple TV running iOS 4.1, you can now go ahead and upgrade to iOS 4.2.1.

If you are on iOS 4.1 or iOS 3.2.2 on your iOS device, you might have already jailbroken it. However, I have received word that there are some untethered jailbreaks for iOS 4.2.1 that will be released very soon. The whole on the operating system also has the potential to be used in iOS 4.3. I may have mentioned this in previous posts, however I cannot stress this enough. If you wish to keep your jailbreak, do not update to iOS 4.2.1 until further notice.
If you are going to update, connect your iOS device to your PC and launch iTunes and back up your iOS device. Then restore the device. When you restore, you will also upgrading, killing two birds with one stone. I should warn you that this process will remove all of your jailbroken apps. From there you can jailbreak again when the jailbreak is ready for download and installation.
In other news, host of web-based show diggnation Kevin Rose has received some information saying that the iPad 2 is most likely not to have a retina display. In the past, Rose did predict correctly about a previous iPod Nano having a curved screen. He was also correct on cut copy and paste iOS 3.0. With this track record, I think we can say that this could be a good prediction. However, I would not trust the rumours about facetime coming to iPad 2.

Nick Pack, an
iDroid developer, has just posted a video of an iPhone
3G running Android 2.3 Gingerbread (video embedded after the
break). It’s pretty sluggish, and the video quality is poor, but the
proof of concept is clear: it’s certainly Android 2.3 on an iPhone.
The same developer went
on to add that it’s still very early days for the port, and
that the “iPhone 4 port is under way and progressing steadily.” Of
course, once it runs on the iPhone 4, the Android 2.3 on the iPad is
just the tiniest of baby steps away.
While a public release of Android 2.3
for iPhone is probably a few weeks away, a stable build of Android
2.2 for iPhone is available from the iDroid site;
installation is pretty easy, and it runs quite well too.
so there you have it. A great way to get the best of both
worlds on an iPhone 3G. I have also left a video clip of this
above for you to have a look at. Though there may have been
performance issues with iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G, I am sure that when a
stable release of Android is ready, it should be usable. As
mentioned above, all of you iPhone 4 owners out there should also be
able to get in on the action soon as there will be a version of Android
for iPhone is in the works at the moment.
However, I should warn you that you will need to jailbreak
your iPhone if you want to try this out for yourselves.

I have an update for you all on the untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1. The iPhone dev team have released a beta test version of redsn0w for macs. I have a good friend of mine who have tried this on an iOS device they had going spare and the news is not good. At the time of posting, the iPhone dev team have updated redsn0w to beta 3 and it is still for Mac. However, redsn0w still has some bugs.
If you want to jailbreak and you’re on iOS 4.2.1, and don’t mind having to run redsn0w every time you wish to reboot, then feel free to use the current stable release available here . Otherwise, stay well away from it. If you are on iOS 4.1 or lower, then do not upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 until further notice.

However if you are planning to switch to another network, then you would still have to honour the remainder of your current contract.
To start the unlocking procedure, just click here and click on the link that comes up on the page. You will be asked to fill out a form. After you have filled out this form, you will have to wait up to 14 days. Within this time you will receive a text to confirm that your iPhone 4 has been unlocked. Simply put a non-O2 sim in your iPhone 4 and connect your iPhone 4 into your computer, launch iTunes and a message will appear on the screen to confirm the unlock procedure has been completed.

It seems that Apple has intentionally disabled the jailbreak detection API in its iOS. As to why the company has done this, no reason has been revealed so far. Well, just a couple of months ago, Apple has said that jailbreaking is legal, although the process may still void the warranty of the iPhone.
All iPhone owners need to use the company’s proprietary iTunes software to install and manage their apps, which can pose to be rather restrictive, unless one choose to jailbreak their mobile device. A jailbroken iPhone lets you use other alternatives to load and modify apps outside of Apple’s iTunes app store, although it is still susceptible to vulnerabilities which could exist on the iOS version that the iPhone is equiped with. Thus, the company initially introduced the jailbreak detection API into its iOS to ensure non-jail broken phone are secured, especially for enterprise users whereby jailbroken phones can pose huge security threats.

though this may seem like huge news, I think it’s important to re-emphasize that if you are on a Jailbroken iOS device, then make sure you don’t upgrade or restore to the normal iOS or you could lose your jailbreak for a while. However, could this be a sign that Steve is starting the fight against the iOS jailbreak community. Only time will tell.

So if you have been using a jailbroken iOS device, then you will know that Cydia is the place where you can get tweaks and apps which you would not find on Apple’s app store. You will also know that before, cydia used to be slow as well. However, I can assure you that these days are over. A new version of cydia has been released and I you can click here to find out how to download and install the new Cydia onto your iOS device.
I have installed the new Cydia on my iOS device and I can say that the new cydia is definitely faster and I highly recommend downloading it now. Don’t just take my word for it though, go ahead and see for yourself by downloading the new Cydia here. However, you will need to be prepared to spend some money on safari download manager.
In other jailbreak news, the iPhone Dev Team have released a new version of redsn0w for devices running iOS 4.2.1. However, this jailbreak is tethered. This means that every time you want to reboot your iOS device, you will have to plug it into your computer and run it through redsn0w to get yourself back to normal. Untethered means that you would not have to do this and when you do the jailbreak you are done, and you would not need to run your iOS device through redsn0w unless you have restored or upgraded your phone using a stock firmware. Therefore, I strongly suggest staying away from it until further notice.
If you are still on 4.1 or 3.2.2 on your iOS device and you are jailbroken, please stay away from 4.2.1 until further notice, but by all means, do download the new Cydia.
