Receive Payments with your iPhone

Tuesday Feb 23, 2010
the folks behind the Square iPhone payment system have finally seen fit to open up their solution to the public, but only in the form of a pilot. If you’re interested to be one of the few scratching the impulse-buy-itch with a cellphone dongle, hit that source link to sign up. For the rest of ya, there’s an explanatory video after the break.

This really opens up the opportunities.

Its been easy to pay by Paypal for quite some time now using the Paypal app but receiving money from people who don’t have paypal acocunts can be amazing for Contractors or web specialist.

No more waiting for payments…just let them get out their Credit cards.

Thanks SquareUp

Apple iPhone overtaking Windows Mobile

Thursday Feb 18, 2010

Before Windows Phone 7 was even an embryo of a concept, Windows Mobile was king: It powered nearly half of smartphones in use, a led the industry in features. Then, in 2007, things started to go wrong. Very, very wrong.

Silicon Alley Insider has charted Windows Mobile’s platform shar

Windows Phone 7 ad : False Advertisement

Microsoft seems to have completely given up on their Windows Mobile 6.x phones.
Strange it took them so long, i threw one out of a Window shortly after using it.

Windows Phone 7 comes with adverts mocking the iPhone, but then instead of showing decent functionality is shows projected images as show in the promotional video.

I won’t bore you with the video, as it looks like there won’t even be a landscape keyboard… but here’s a screenshot of the Youtube video.

Had Windows Phone 7 actually brought out such technology i might consider it as a second device.

Personally having had to struggle with many people’s requests to setup a Windows mobile in a corporate environment I will say far away from it myself and let others struggle.

Ps: most of the time the answer to setting up their Windows Mobile, in a Windows corporate environment, after hours of research came down to

“Sorry it can’t be done, Microsoft windows mobile doesn’t support X, Y and Z” to which i would get the response “Mhmm, i should have bought an iPhone shouldn’t I”

Apple disables Apple ID on Hackers iPhone

Thursday Feb 18, 2010
app-store-ban
No doubt Apple is leery of having its iPhone OS so easily and frequently hacked (its notoriously weak security being one of the many reasons the iPhone has yet to really take off in the corporate world), but Cupertino’s latest security precaution isn’t likely to win any favor. Just days after a scrappy young iPhone hacked discovered an unlock exploit for OS 3.1.3 baseband 05.12.01, Sherif Hashim received an ominous message on his iPhone after attempting to log into iTunes: “This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons.

I don’t quite agree with the statement that the iPhone is insecure… and the fact that Apple is able to remotely determine that the phone was hacked is quite impressive.
Possibly it sends a MD5 hash of the original OS? Don’t know, but definitely an option.

For now, If you are on OS 3.1.3 just wait a few weeks before jailbreaking, or don’t jailbreak at all.

Why won’t you want to jailbreak:

Considering that I’ve written posts about WHY you want to jailbreak this might sound like me backtracking, but it isn’t.

Quite a few things have changed:

1) You can legally unlock your iPhone. Just call up your service provider, or visit their website, or view a post on iPhone tutorial videos which shows you how.

2) The amount of Good Quality Apps available for Standard iPhones are now more than ever, where previously this functionalities were only in non-official apps

3)The free Video recording Apps which are nore officially available on the Appstore for older iPhones also lessen the need to jailbreak.

4) Lastly, some people just like to use the main features of the iPhone. jailbreaking ISN’T for everyone. (It was never intended to be)

Apple releases iPhone/iPod touch Software Update (version 3.1.3) – CNET

Tuesday Feb 2, 2010

Aplenty released an update to the iPhone firmware 3.1.3 today which includes a few bug fixes in particular one that once in a while prevented 3rd party software from launching.

Previously the fix for this was to sync with iTunes or remove or install another application via the iPhone app store and then run update.

Hopefully these small buggfixes will recent it all together.

iPhone 3.1 easy email addresses

Wednesday Jan 27, 2010

The iPhone (as of iPhone OS 3.1) supports using a type="email" attribute on <input> tags, so I changed the login page template to use that.

It looks like the change is now live, and I’m pretty sure that this is the thing that I’ve done that will be seen by the most people (thus far).

Thanks Mihai Parparita, (Gmail Developer)

You’ve made something small which millions of people have used without realizing.

Wednesday Jan 13, 2010

Do you need Video on your iPhone 2G/3G but can’t yet upgrade to a 3GS iPhone?

Luckily since late Dec 2009 a couple of Video Recording Apps started appearing in the iTunes App Store to allow iPhone 2G or iPhone 3G users to officially also record Video and join their friends who have iPhone 3GS’.

Unfortunately due to the type of camera in the iPhone 2G and 3G  the video produced will never be as good as the 3GS.

However, if you just want some quick and easy videos to upload to youtube or the like, Read the rest of this entry »

UK iPhone on Orange or o2 (tag: iPhone News)

Sunday Jan 3, 2010

UK iPhone Customers: o2 or Orange?

If you are considering getting an iPhone or considering changing to another Mobile network now that the iPhone is available on both o2 and Orange there are a few things to consider but Pice doesn’t seem to really be a factor at all.
CNET UK has summed it up quite well at iPhone on Orange or O2? We compare – Crave at CNET UK
One additional thing that you need to know is that Orange UK only provide you Visual Voicemail on the iPhone and Maxima priceplans so if you go Pay as you Go, it won’t be available.
